The stadium in Setor Central carries the name of Pedro Ludovico Teixeira, the man who founded Goiânia itself. It opened on 3 September 1941, and the opening fixture — a friendly between hosts Goiânia EC and América Mineiro — ended 2-0, with Ari scoring the first goal in the venue's history.

What sets it apart from other Goiás grounds is that it was demolished outright in 2006 and rebuilt from the ground up on the same footprint, reopening on 8 August 2016. The stadium portion of that work alone climbed from a budgeted 39 million reais to a final 95 million, part of a wider 155 million-real Centro de Excelência do Esporte that added new dressing rooms and press facilities. A further round of upgrades between 2019 and 2021 fitted new floodlighting and a VAR room.

The stadium hosted eight matches of the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup, including France's meeting with Chile, and returned to international duty at the 2021 Copa América with group matches and a quarter-final.
