Estadio Olímpico Universitario sits inside the Ciudad Universitaria campus. It opened as Estadio Universitario on 20 November 1952, built by the university with more than 10,000 workers, and was renamed for the 1968 Summer Olympics. The track was laid as a synthetic Tartan surface. Diego Rivera’s high-relief mural runs along the interior face of the concrete. The ground has hosted four matches at the 1986 FIFA World Cup, including the Round of 16 tie between Italy and France, which drew 70,000 spectators.

Pumas CU American football and UNAM Pumas football both play here. The capacity for association football is 68,954, though the space held 83,700 during the 1968 Games. A crowd crush on 18 May 1985 during a Liga MX final left eleven dead. Michael Jackson performed here on his Dangerous World Tour in 1993.

The campus itself is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The stadium has no separate official website of its own.
