Estádio Pina Manique

Lisbon, Portugal

The pitch in the Benfica parish of Lisbon did not fail on a match day. In August 2022 Iron Maiden played a concert at Estádio Pina Manique. From the 2022–23 season the ground no longer met league standards at all, and Casa Pia Atlético Clube went to the Estádio Nacional at Jamor, then on to the Estádio Municipal de Rio Maior.

Before that it had been a small ground with a long memory. It was inaugurated with a friendly billed as the Taça Pina Manique, Benfica beating Vitória de Guimarães 1–0, and Benfica kept coming back to win heavily: 6–1 in 1983, 6–0 in 2020. In the same year the venue was considered as a training site for the UEFA Champions League Final 8 staged in Lisbon.

The name belongs to Pina Manique, the jurist and police chief who died in 1805. It was designed by Cândido Palma de Melo and built by Luís Costa Gomes, and it stood on Rua Monsanto alongside the Restaurante Dom Leitão.

The old stadium has since been demolished. Lisbon City Council approved the architectural project for its replacement in February 2024, at an estimated €15 million, but contaminated soil had to be removed from the site. The 2025/26 target has slipped towards 2026/27.
