The concrete came late and in two waves. Wooden perimeter fencing gave way to concrete walls and columns in 1977, and when Olimpo reached the Primera División in 2002–03, the club replaced the remaining wooden stands, added seating, and upgraded floodlights, press boxes, ticket offices and toilets.
On 13 May 1978, the Argentina squad preparing for that year's World Cup beat a Liga del Sur regional select 7–0 here. Mario Kempes started; a 17-year-old Diego Maradona came on for him and played the last ten minutes, his first appearance in Bahía Blanca. A mural marking the visit's 43rd anniversary went up on the stadium wall in May 2021 and was later vandalised.
Beyond that, the ground has mostly served its regional function: Liga del Sur finals and national-tournament fixtures involving Huracán, Comercial and Villa Mitre, on a natural grass pitch at Ángel Brunel 11, in the Centro Sudoeste district where the street meets Avenida Colón.
