Estadio Sausalito

For its first three decades the ground in Viña del Mar was known as Estadio El Tranque, and before that as the Parque Municipal Población Vergara; the switch to Sausalito followed in the 1960s.

What the ground is best known for arrived in 1962, when it took a quarter-final and a semi-final of the FIFA World Cup. From there the capacity moved in both directions: around 20,000 when it opened, past 30,000 by 1976, then down to 7,000 after the 2010 earthquake. The rebuild that ran from 2012 to 2015 cost roughly 10.831 billion Chilean pesos and brought the ground back at 23,423 — in time for a Copa América quarter-final and the final of the FIFA U-17 World Cup the same year. CONMEBOL counts it lower, at 21,754, for international fixtures.

The highest crowd on record dates from that U-17 final week: 21,893 for the United States against Croatia. The 1991 Copa América had passed through earlier, and the ground has since taken football at the 2023 Pan American Games and the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup. A Chile rugby fixture against Samoa in 2025 drew 20,000.
