The club here rebuilt entirely rather than patch what it had. It opened on 18 April 2015. The name came from the fans, not a committee — a city vote in October 2014, before construction had even finished, settled on Zorros del Desierto , the club's own nickname.

The rebuild trimmed capacity rather than expanding it, from 13,000 down to around 12,100, a deliberate concession to FIFA standards over raw numbers. The pitch is a mix of ryegrass and bluegrass.

Cobreloa is the constant tenant, but the ground has filled in for neighbours more than once — Deportes Antofagasta played here in 2007 and again in 2023, Cobresal borrowed it in 2008 when a miners' strike closed their own stadium, and Deportes Iquique used it through 2017 and 2018 after their ground fell short of CONMEBOL's requirements. The Chilean national team has also used it sparingly.

The record crowd came only recently: 11,750 for the Liguilla de Ascenso final between Cobreloa and Deportes Concepción on 7 December 2025. Away from football, the old stadium had a long run as a concert venue, and President Sebastián Piñera visited the site in 2012.
