The ground sits on the same plot in Győr's Gyárváros district that Győri ETO FC had used since 1977, when the club moved into the Rába ETO Stadion. That older bowl, built to hold up to 28,000, came down in 2005; ETO Park opened three years later on the same site, at just over half its predecessor's capacity.

Its early history is tied to the company that built it. QUAESTOR Invest financed the roughly 3-billion-forint project, and when the Quaestor financial group collapsed under investigation in 2015, the stadium itself was seized as part of the case. It stayed in that limbo until 2019, when ownership passed to the city of Győr.

The pitch is natural turf with undersoil heating, relaid in 2024–2025. The retail and leisure complex around the bowl — the "park" element, distinct from the stadium itself — went through a separate rebuild between 2022 and 2024 under West Hungária Bau, which took over the site. Hungary's national team has used the ground for friendlies against Russia, Bulgaria, Kuwait and Finland between 2010 and 2014, and Bayern Munich played there on 11 August 2013 in a match that still holds the attendance record, though sources disagree on the exact crowd figure. The name itself has not changed since the doors opened in 2008, even if the club's own site sometimes shortens it to ETO Stadion.
