Fortuna Sittard Stadion

Sittard is a small club with a modest ground, and Fortuna Sittard Stadion carries that scale honestly: 12,800 seats, tucked into what was once an industrial patch of the city rather than a stretch of open land reserved for something grander. When it opened, on 14 November 1999, the club marked the occasion with a friendly against Schalke 04 — a fixture that briefly put a provincial ground on the same afternoon bill as a Bundesliga name.

What sets this stadium apart is less the architecture than the paperwork. Sponsorship has rewritten its name four times: it started as Wagner & Partners Stadion, became Fortuna Stadion in 2008, then Trendwork Arena a year later, then Offermans Joosten Stadion from 2013. A 2013 renovation added a sports centre, a hotel and a supermarket around the bowl, folding the ground into the everyday commercial life of the neighbourhood rather than keeping it apart as a matchday-only space.

The pitch itself runs on hybrid grass, a concession to Eredivisie standards that many smaller Dutch clubs have had to make. Fortuna's own history at the highest level has been thin on silverware: the men's side reached the KNVB Cup final in the stadium's opening year and lost 0–2 to Ajax, played away in Rotterdam. It took until 2024 for the club to return to a cup final, this time through the women's team, in Tilbury— Tilburg. No international fixture has ever been staged here, and the ground has stayed what it was built to be: a home pitch, not a showcase.
