Franz-Fekete-Stadion

SV Kapfenberg have called this ground home for decades. It opened on September 10, 1950, as the Alpenstadion, built with the support of the then-mayor Heinrich Scheibengrafer. The capacity swelled to 12,000 after a renovation completed in 1987, paid for with 6.54 million Austrian Schillings and the backing of the mayor who would later give his name to the place.

In 2001 it became the Franz-Fekete-Stadion, a name that lasted until November 2022, when the Austrian Football Bundesliga and ÖFB stepped in after it emerged that Fekete had been a member of the SS. They renamed it Stadion Kapfenberg for official matches. The municipal council voted to return to the original name, Alpenstadion, on December 14, 2023, effective January 1, 2024, after a historical commission confirmed the facts.

The all-time attendance record of 11,000 stands at October 29, 1996, when Grazer AK beat Inter Milan 1-0 in the UEFA Cup, the crowd made possible by temporary stands. The venue hosted the Austrian Supercup finals in 1994, 1995 and 1996. No senior Austria national team matches were played here, though youth internationals and club friendlies have filled the seats.
