Franz-Horr-Stadion
Franz-Horr-Stadion was the name for most of its life, and it still turns up in conversation long after the branding moved on to Generali Arena. The ground sits on Horrplatz, tucked into the tenth district, and it's been the home of FK Austria Wien since 1973 — not since it opened, but for long enough that the two are inseparable in most people's minds.
What actually shapes the place is a reconstruction carried out in stages rather than in one go. The East stand was rebuilt first, back in 2008, and stood alone in its new form for the better part of a decade before the club came back for the rest. Between 2016 and 2018, the West and North stands followed, both converted to two tiers, with the North side also gaining a new hospitality area. During that work Austria Wien had to play their home fixtures elsewhere, at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion, which meant a full season and a half away from Favoriten before the club could move back into a ground that, tier by tier, had been made almost entirely new.
The pitch itself has stayed constant through all of it — natural grass, as it was when the stadium first opened in 1925.
