Under floodlights in February 1956, Fratton Park hosted the first Football League match in England played under artificial light.

Both of those rebuilds carry the same signature. With both stands in place the ground held 58,000.

What followed was a long contraction. The original Railway Stand came down in 1956 and was replaced by a 5,000-seat Fratton End; the Taylor Report forced the ground to all-seating in 1996, cutting it to 7,000 before a new 4,500-seat Fratton End opened the following year.

The current work, budgeted at more than £15m and planned since 2020, started in the summer of 2023. The Milton End has been rebuilt entirely, adding 3,115 seats; the South Stand has been upgraded and a new television gantry installed.
