The ground sits on what used to be the Fredrikstad Mekaniske Verksted shipyard. Jarl Ture Vormedal of Griff Arkitekter worked the stands into workshop halls that had stood on the site since 1870. Construction ran from 2005 to 2007 and cost 223 million kroner.

The old Fredrikstad Stadion was in use from 1914 to 2006. The best it has managed came on 15 May 2011, against Vålerenga, a match Fredrikstad won 3-1.

Grass was laid in 2007 and lasted until 2014; the city administration first put the changeover at 13 million kroner, with three million from the municipality, and later reports quote 17.6 million. Replacement work began in May 2024 and the new pitch was down by March 2025.
