Fu Jen Catholic University Stadium
New Taipei City, Taiwan
The ground sits quietly on the campus of Fu Jen Catholic University in the Xinzhuang District of New Taipei City. The artificial turf is the primary feature visible from the stands, a synthetic surface that has seen little change in its nature, though its purpose shifted dramatically a few years back.
For the 2017 Summer Universiade, temporary stands were erected around the perimeter, swelling the capacity to 15,000. That was a brief moment of noise and spectacle, hosting the gold and bronze medal games for the women’s tournament. When the athletes left and the crowds dispersed, the scaffolding came down. The capacity settled back to its permanent figure of 2,500, leaving the pitch exposed to the sky in a way it had not been before. The event still lingers in the memory of the local teams, particularly New Taipei Hang Yuen, who use the venue as one of their home grounds alongside the university’s own side.
It has hosted international qualifiers for the Taiwan national under-16 team and even a friendly between France and Chinese Taipei, but these are distant echoes now. The annual Taiwan Football Festival has brought visitors from Belize and beyond, turning the quiet campus into a hub for a day. Beyond that, the stadium remains a local fixture, a place where the wheels come off in local league matches and the university players polish their skills on the synthetic grass.
