Gandja City Stadium

Ganja's ground has spent more of its recent history in planning documents than under construction. A reconstruction plan was drawn up in 2011; work was meant to begin in August 2013 and did not; the stadium was then written into a state repair programme for 2019–2020, and that too passed without a start. The version standing today only became real on 6 October 2023, when a presidential decree ordered the rebuild, and on 9 April 2024, when the foundation of the new stadium was laid.

What preceded it was Soviet-era work: built between 1959 and 1963, opened in 1963, brought into use in 1964. Who designed it is not recorded in any accessible source.

The rebuild ran through 2024 and 2025. İnşaatçı 3 MMC took the general contract, signed in August 2024, with Aras Group handling the steelwork of the facade; the contract figure is 21.38 million manats. President Ilham Aliyev opened the finished ground on 27 September 2025.

The site is larger than the seating count suggests: 10.4 hectares, or 12 with the car parking, which is what allowed the VVIP, VIP and SKY-box tiers, the staff rooms and the conference hall to be fitted around the bowl rather than squeezed beneath it. The arena meets UEFA category 4 requirements.
