What sets it apart is how long it stayed unfinished. The stadium opened on 24 May 1970 as Estadio Adriano Irala, and Cerro Porteño marked the occasion by beating Silvio Pettirossi, 2-1. But the south-east stand sat incomplete for 38 years, because the owners of a house on that plot of land refused to sell.

The bigger transformation came later. The old Adriano Irala stand — the one that had given the stadium its original name — was torn down entirely to make room for the new structure, finished in September 2017.

It sits in Barrio Obrero, on Avenida Acuña de Figueroa, and has belonged to Cerro Porteño since the day it opened.
