Gewiss Stadium

The ground in Borgo Santa Caterina has been rebuilt around its own skin. When De8 Architetti drew up the conversion that began in 2019, the historic façades of the 1928 stands stayed where they were, while everything behind them was pulled apart: the oval and its athletics track gave way to a rectangle with the stands pushed up against the touchlines. The work came in phases rather than in one closure — the Curva Nord Pisani in 2019, the Tribuna Rinascimento in 2020, and the Curva Sud Morosini, with an underground car park beneath it, only in September 2024.

The rebuild followed a change of landlord. Atalanta bought the ground from the Comune di Bergamo on 10 May 2017 for €8.6 million, holding it through the subsidiary Stadio Atalanta S.r.l.; before that it had belonged to the city since it opened. The pitch that went in during the 2019–20 work is a FLexGrass Vertix hybrid, synthetic fibres stitched vertically into the soil, laid to meet UEFA requirements for Champions League nights.

The name has moved with its backers. It opened as Stadio Mario Brumana , became Stadio Comunale after the war, then Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia in 1994 for those who had represented Italy. Gewiss took the naming rights from 1 July 2019; New Balance took over in 2025.

Italy came here in October 2020 and drew 1–1 with the Netherlands behind closed doors, the match given to Bergamo as a gesture after the pandemic.
