Gianni Bencini Ground
Pembroke, Malta
The ground at Suffolk Road sits in Pembroke, though the club calls itself from St. Julian’s. Melita Football Club has played on this artificial surface since 2007, when the complex opened.
The entrance building is separate, built in stone with a curved façade. Above the door a large crest hangs against the blue sky, and beneath it the name CENTENARY STADIUM is fixed in metal letters. The dates 1900–2000 sit below, marking a century that the club did not exist to celebrate. A red door gives way to a VIP entrance, and a sign nearby forbids parking except for ambulances.
The capacity is small, reported as 400 or 500 depending on who counts. It does not matter much for a side that plays out of Pembroke while claiming St. Julian’s as home. The website lists the club’s own details, but the ground itself has no digital presence of its own.
The pitch is tight, the stands close. A visiting team does not travel to make up the numbers here, and the result is often decided before the final whistle. The draw brought them together early, and the wheels came off when the away end never stopped.
