Gjilan City Stadium

Nine years after the bulldozers arrived, Gjilan's home ground still isn't finished. Demolished in April 2017 to make way for a rebuild, the project has since gone through a stalled contract, a two-year pause from August 2022, and a restart under a revised design in May 2025 — long enough that both city clubs now know the artificial pitch next door, on Rruga e Kumanovës, better than their own turf.

The site has never carried an official name, and that gap has been filled twice over. Supporters of FC Drita, founded in 1947 and the older of Gjilan's two clubs, call it Selami Osmani – Bezi; followers of SC Gjilani, heir to Crvena Zvezda Gnjilane and later Ylli i Kuq Gjilan, use Agim Ramadani instead. Neither name appears on any sign, but each marks which club considers the ground its own.

Before the works began, the stadium had already drawn its largest crowd: 20,000 for a match in 2011, roughly double what the finished rebuild is meant to hold. Plans have shrunk since — an initial 15,000-seat target for 2020 gave way, after the funding dispute, to an 8,750-seat design, with the current build listed at around 9,500. Natural grass is due back on the main pitch once construction ends; for now, Gjilan football is played on synthetic turf a few hundred metres away, in the Balec district the ground has occupied since 1967.
