Goldenacre Sports Ground
Edinburgh, United Kingdom
The main tenants, Heriot's Rugby Club, have played their home fixtures here for many years, and the cricket club shares the turf. It is not the home of Spartans FC, who play at Ainslie Park.
While the recreation ground settled into its current position in 1901, the original records point to 1832, though the exact date is unclear. The pitch is natural grass for the rugby and cricket, while the football pitch remains 3G artificial. A planned 3G hockey pitch with LED lights has been discussed for the future.
Scotland has played international cricket here, including matches during the 2015 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier against the United Arab Emirates. More recently, the ground hosted fixtures for the 2023 ICC Men's T20 World Cup Europe Regional Final. It is owned by the George Heriot's School, and the grounds have been used for tennis and athletics as well.
The floodlights illuminate the tennis and football courts at night. Yet it has hosted international matches and even appeared in the film 'Chariots of Fire'.
