Gresty Road (Mornflake Stadium)

The ground owes its existence to the railway. Crewe Alexandra were moved off the Alexandra Recreation Ground when that land was bought up for railway building, and in 1906 the club took the site on Gresty Road , where it has stayed ever since.

The wooden main stand went up in flames and was replaced in 1932; six decades later the Hillsborough disaster and the all-seater rules that followed took the ground apart stand by stand — Railway End in 1993, Gresty Road End in 1995, the Pop Side across 1996 and 1997. The last stage came in 1999–2000, when a new main stand went up under a cantilever roof, holding 6,809 on its own at a cost of £5.2m and pushing the ground past ten thousand.

That rebuild changed the name as well. On completion in 2000 the club registered the place as the Alexandra Stadium , though supporters carried on calling it Gresty Road, and since June 2021 a sponsorship deal with the oat miller Mornflake has made it the Mornflake Stadium . The stands are sponsored individually too, down to the Whitby Morrison Ice Cream Van Stand.

Twenty thousand came in for the FA Cup third round against Tottenham Hotspur on 30 January 1960, a 2–2 draw, and that figure is now out of reach; the all-seater best is 10,092 against Manchester City on 12 March 2002.
