Guiyang Olympic Sports Center

The ground was not built for football. It went up to host the 9th National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities, which came to Guiyang in September 2011, and the 1.9 billion yuan spent on the first phase bought a multi-purpose bowl in Guanshanhu District rather than a football-specific one. Construction had started in 2006; the main stadium phase followed in June 2008; the complex opened in 2010, a year ahead of the Games it was meant for.

Football arrived afterwards and has not stayed settled. The Guiyang Olympic Sports Center was home to Guizhou Hengfeng Zhicheng, later Guizhou F.C., and it is that side that owns the attendance record: 41,783 on 17 June 2017, for a Chinese Super League match against Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao. Guizhou F.C. dissolved in 2022. The tenancy passed to Guizhou Zhicheng F.C. of China League One, and the football pitch itself was completed on 20 May 2022 — artificial turf, laid by WM Grass, in a bowl still carrying an athletics profile.

Between the football dates the venue has worked as a concert hall: Mayday, Jay Chou, JJ Lin, G.E.M. and Vitas have all played here.

The name has never been sold; there is no sponsor's title in its history. A second phase is under way, 1.35 billion yuan for a main gymnasium, a training hall and auxiliary buildings, aimed at national-level events and staged performances rather than at the pitch.
