Gürsel Aksel
The ground exists because another one was condemned. Alsancak Stadium had housed Göztepe, Altay, Karşıyaka and Altınordu since 1929, and it came down in 2015 over seismic safety. What replaced it sits some way off, in the Üçkuyular neighbourhood of Konak, and carries a different name: Gürsel Aksel , the captain who played for Göztepe from 1955 to 1972.
The opening, on 26 January 2020, went the way the home crowd wanted. Göztepe beat Beşiktaş 2–1 in the Süper Lig, and Halil Akbunar scored the first goal in the building. They won the 2020–21 Turkish Cup final here, 2–0 against Antalyaspor, and they were on the wrong end of the attendance record: 19,472 watched Göztepe put them away 3–0 on 19 September 2025.
Fenerbahçe won the 2022–23 cup final on the pitch, 2–0 over İstanbul Başakşehir. It has also held a rock concert, and the funeral of Fevzi Zemzem.
