The stadium opened in 2020, built where the old ground was demolished. It serves Göztepe, who have played here since the first match.

The surface is a hybrid pitch, natural grass reinforced with synthetic fibres. The capacity has grown since opening. Portable stands were added, bringing the total to 23,376. The official attendance record of 19,472 was set in 2025 during a Süper Lig match against Beşiktaş, which Göztepe won 3–0.

This ground has hosted the Turkish Cup Finals twice, in 2021 and 2023. The 2023 match saw Fenerbahçe lift the trophy. The stadium also hosts matches for the Turkey national team.

The address is Mehmet Ali Akman Mahallesi, İnönü Caddesi No: 640, 35290 Konak/İzmir. There is no confirmed information about a pitch heating system. The stadium was named after Gürsel Aksel, a legendary captain and player for Göztepe, from its inception. Construction began in 2017 and cost approximately ₺218.9 million. The main contractor was Rönesans Holding A.Ş.
