Gyumri
Gyumri's stadium claims a place no other ground in Armenia can: it was the country's first, standing in the city since the mid-1920s, long before the wider network of Soviet-era Armenian venues took shape. Gyumri City Stadium is its only name — there has never been a rebrand or a sponsor's tag attached to it.
The ground has been reworked in stages rather than in one sweeping rebuild. Renovation came in 1999, again in 2012, and once more in 2019, and it's the 2012 work that mattered most competitively — the pitch was brought up to UEFA standard, a threshold a stadium this size and this old does not reach by accident. Ширак have called it home since 1958, a tenancy long enough that the club and the ground are effectively spoken of as one and the same in the city.
What it has never chased is scale. Capacity sits at a few thousand, and nothing about the place suggests it was ever built to do otherwise — this is a stadium sized for a provincial football culture, not for continental nights, and its natural grass pitch has been maintained accordingly through each renovation rather than replaced with anything more elaborate.
