Hala Tatran
Ostrava, Czechia
Formerly: Tatran, Bonver aréna, Čas aréna
The most striking feature of this building is its roof. This vaulted ceiling was the original innovation, a wooden lamella structure designed to span the interior without any supporting columns.
NH Ostrava has played at this ground since it opened on October 28, 1953. The club has never been relegated from the top division in over 70 years, a record of longevity that the building itself has not been granted. While the parquet floor inside hosts basketball and the occasional concert, the exterior has become a canvas for the club's history. In May 2025, a memorial mural was commissioned by the club and painted on the front wall, just below the arched roofline.
The venue is scheduled for demolition after 2027 to make way for extending the Místecká Street highway. A new multi-purpose sports hall with a capacity of at least 3,500 spectators is planned for the Futurum shopping centre area. The current structure, often known by its sponsored name Bonver aréna, has been cited by architectural experts as a unique example of modernist sport architecture deserving of preservation, but the decision has already been made.
