Hala Věry Čáslavské

The building does not announce itself as a sports arena. Its yellow façade stretches along a street in Černošice, lined with windows that open onto a parking lot. A sign above the doors reads "Fakulta tělesné výchovy a sportu Univerzity Karlovy." In the photograph, there are cars parked in front, and evergreen trees stand between the pavement and the wall. Snow lies on the bushes and on a few roofs. There is no grand entrance, no stadium floodlights, and no obvious indication of what happens inside.

Hala Věry Čáslavské is built beneath the surface of the school grounds. The playing area sits 2.3 metres below the level of the surrounding pavement, sunken so that the structure appears as a long, low block rather than a towering hall. The roofline is flat, broken only by a small chimney and a thin antenna. Inside, the space measures roughly 51 by 22.5 metres. A fixed grandstand holds 183 seats, though for larger events mobile tribunes can be brought in to take the total closer to 500. The floor is wood parquet, suitable for basketball and floorball, though the exact type of timber is not recorded.

The hall opened in May 2016 after construction began the previous February. The investor was the City of Černošice, and the architects were GRIDO, architektura & design, s.r.o. Věra Čáslavská, the gymnast whose name the venue bears, attended the opening ceremony and received honorary citizenship of the town that day. Wolves Radotín, a basketball club in the 1. liga, use the hall as their home. They played there in the 2024/2025 season, drawing crowds of over 300 for their biggest matches, which is more than the fixed seating allows and suggests the mobile stands were in place.

For the rest, the hall is quiet. It hosted the first Memorial of Věra Čáslavská in April 2017 and the Czech Republic Championships in Artistic Gymnastics in June 2018. It also saw the Czech Architecture Award in 2017. There is no record of any previous name. The building has not been renamed.
