Hammarby IP

Kanalplan — the canal pitch — is what people in Södermalm called the patch of land where Hammarby IF began digging in 1912, the year Stockholm hosted the Olympics.

The club paid for it with loans and donations, and the drainage, the pitch and the first stands took shape across 1914 and 1915. Gunnar Asplund drew the main entrance. The ground was usable by August 1915, when Klara SK met IK City there, but the ceremony waited until 12 September, with King Gustaf V present.

Hammarby IF's men played here until 1939; then, with the club under financial strain, a speedway track was laid around the football pitch in 1947, and Monarkerna and Getingarna raced on it into the 1960s. The place had already hosted the Sexdagarsloppet cycling races in 1924. Its biggest crowd came for ice hockey — 6,700 for a play-off against Södertälje in 1950.

The rebuild between 2016 and 2018 was driven by Damallsvenskan requirements, and the arena reopened on 17 April 2018 with two permanent stands seating 1,037, a movable stand for 500 standing spectators, new floodlights, a running track down one side, and a main stand carrying dressing rooms, referees' rooms, a press area and lifts. Glulam does most of the structural work. Stockholm relaid the artificial surface in June 2024.

Hammarby IF DFF are the main tenants now, alongside Hammarby Talang FF and FC Stockholm Internazionale.
