Haugesund Stadion
Haugesund, Norway
Formerly: Haugesund kommunale idrettsplass
Haugesund Stadion sits on Karmsundgata 169. The design is simple enough to read from a distance: a single main stand with a roof shelters the seated supporters, while the remaining terraces are open to the weather. A running track no longer surrounds the pitch; the hybrid grass surface blends the natural and artificial elements seamlessly.
The ground has existed since 1920, when the local council built Haugesund kommunale idrettsplass as a municipal sports field. LINK Arkitektur removed the athletics track and added the lighting rig needed for television coverage.
Atmosphere here is shaped by the topography. The roof covers only the seated section, leaving the rest of the ground exposed to the sky.
Matchdays bring a different energy. The ground holds its own history, but it does not lean on it. The hybrid grass provides a consistent surface regardless of the weather, and the floodlights ensure the game flows even when the evening draws in early.
