Hazza bin Zayed Stadium

The club that plays here spent four decades in other people's stadiums — the Khalifa bin Zayed ground from 1971 to 1987, then Tahnoun bin Mohammed until 2014. The building that replaced them, opened in January 2014 and designed by Pattern Design with BAM International as main contractor, was named for the Al Ain chairman, Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and has carried that name unchanged ever since.

What has filled it since is mostly other people's finals. The Egyptian Super Cup has been decided in Al Ain three times: Al Ahly beat Zamalek 3-2 in 2015, Al Ahly saw off El Masry 1-0 in 2018, and in 2022 Zamalek took it on penalties after a goalless ninety. That last one — a Cairo derby settled some 2,500 kilometres from Cairo — remains the oddest fixture list entry the ground holds.

Al Ain themselves have twice reached an AFC Champions League final on this pitch and split the results. On 26 November 2016 they drew 1-1 with Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors in front of 23,239 and lost the shootout. On 25 May 2024, with 24,826 in, they turned it on against Yokohama F. Marinos; the celebration gathering followed in June.

The attendance record belongs to neither. It was set on 25 January 2019, when the Asian Cup quarter-final between the UAE and Australia drew 25,053 — near enough the full house the ground can hold. Club World Cup matches came through in 2017 and 2018, the second bringing River Plate.
