Het Kuipje
Het Kuipje takes its name — and its old nickname, 't Kuipke, "the little tub" — from its shape, a bowl set down among the farmland around Westerlo rather than inside a dense town centre. The De Merodedreef address places it next to the estate of the counts of Merode, and the ground has never carried another name or a sponsor's tag since it opened.
KVC Westerlo was founded the same year the stadium went up, and the club has played nowhere else since. The pitch got undersoil heating in the 2008–2009 close season, making Het Kuipje only the third ground in Belgium to have it, after the Cristal Arena and Stade de Sclessin. The same off-season work took out the old barriers separating fans from the touchline, opening up the sightlines from the low stands.
Its one night on the wider stage came on 4 August 2001, when Het Kuipje hosted the Belgian Super Cup and watched Anderlecht beat the home side 4-1.
