Hietalahden stadion
Hietalahti has spent most of its life as a two-club ground, shared by Vaasan Palloseura and Vasa IFK. That arrangement has outlasted several names for the place — Elisa Stadion, Lemonsoft Stadion — and the stadium itself stayed put in the Hietalahti district.
What sets it apart from the average Finnish ground of its size is the rebuild: between 2015 and 2016 the club put roughly sixteen and a half million euros into replacing what had been standing since 1935, and what came out the other side was an all-seater with artificial turf. It is not a big ground by continental standards.
The pitch has hosted more than domestic football. In 2018 it staged matches at the UEFA European Under-19 Championship, which briefly put a city of this size on the same fixture list as grounds several times its capacity. And football is not the only thing that fills it: Nightwish, the symphonic metal band with its own roots in Finland, played the stadium on 17 June 2023 as part of their Human.:||: Nature. World Tour, turning the pitch into a concert bowl for a night.
