Hillsborough Stadium

The Спион Коп at the north end was the last terrace at Хиллсборо to go, converted to seats in 1993 under the Тейлор report — the report written after what happened on the ground's own Леппингс Лейн end on 15 April 1989, when 96 Ливерпуль supporters died in a crush at the Кубок Англии semi-final.

The stadium opened on 2 сентября 1899 as Оулертон Стэдиум, built by a Дерби contractor, Джо Миллс, whom Шеффилд Уэнсдей paid in shares because the club had no cash for him. The Оулертон name lasted until 1914, when a new parliamentary constituency gave the ground the one it still carries.

Арчибальд Лейтч designed the Южная трибуна between 1913 and 1915 at a cost of £18,000. It was rebuilt for Евро-1996 for roughly £7m, gaining about 3,000 upper-tier seats, a new roof and hospitality rooms — after the World Cup of 1966, when Germany beat Uruguay 4:0 in the quarter-final here.

The record crowd, 72,841, came on 17 февраля 1934 for a fifth-round Кубок Англии tie against Манчестер Сити that finished 2:2. In June 2007 the river Дон put 1.8 metres of water through the place. The Desso GrassMaster pitch laid in 2015 gave way in 2025 to HERO Hybrid Grass.
