Hlidarendi Stadium

Reykjavik, Iceland

Formerly: Vodafonevöllurinn, Origovöllurinn, Valsvöllur

The ground sits at the end of Hlíðarenda in Reykjavik. Valur Reykjavik play here. The current stadium has stood since May 2008, when the outdoor pitch finally opened. Before that, Valur played at the same site, but the old ground is where the record belongs.

The stadium does not hide behind walls. A fence runs along the roadside, and behind it the main stand rises with a curved white roof. The surface is natural grass.

The name has changed since the beginning. It was Vodafonevöllurinn, then Origovöllurinn after an IT company took over. In January 2024 it became N1-völlurinn. Locals still call it Valsvöllur or simply Hlíðarendi. The building has been here long enough for the sponsors to come and go.

The capacity is small — around 1,500 spectators. It is not a place for records. The famous attendance of 18,243 came on September 18, 1968, when Benfica visited Reykjavik, but that was at the old stadium. The indoor arena opened first, in September 2007, for basketball and handball. The football pitch followed eight months later.

The club website is www.valur.is. There is no separate site for the stadium. The ground is owned by the club, and the club has kept it running through sponsorship deals and weather.
