Ice Palace "Olymp-Arena"
Munich, Germany
Formerly: Eisstadion am Oberwiesenfeld
The Olympia-Eissportzentrum has always been defined by its dual life. Built in 1967 before the city secured the 1972 Games, it began as the Eisstadion am Oberwiesenfeld. When the Olympics arrived, the hall was converted into the Boxhalle. After the Games, the ice returned.
What separates it from a standard rink is the layer of history pressed into its structure. The 1999 modifications for the München Barons brought heated individual seats. Then came the parquet floor, laid down between 2010 and 2011 for FC Bayern Munich basketball. By 2020, the final conversion saw standing areas replaced by seats, fixing the capacity at 5,728.
The sound here was once louder. It held the 1969 World Table Tennis Championships and the 1994 European Cup Semi-Finals. For years, it was home to the German National Ice Hockey Team and EHC Red Bull München. But that era ended in April 2024. The team moved to the SAP Garden in September.
