IKH Areena

The arena itself was not a renovation; it was a new build between 2021 and 2022, replacing an older facility. The construction cost was estimated at 8 to 12 million euros. The name IKH comes from the local construction company, a major sponsor and investor.

Inside, the floor is natural maple parquet. The seating capacity for basketball games is 3,500, of which 2,362 are fixed court-side seats supplied by Piiroinen. The rest of the space is left open for concerts or trade fairs. The arena hosted its first basketball game on October 5, 2022. The home team is Kauhajoki Karhu Basket, who play in the Korisliiga. The club was originally founded as a football side in 1910 and was restructured into a basketball team in 2017. They have won three league titles, in 2018, 2019, and 2022. The arena is owned by KB Areena Kauhajoki Oy, a company founded on November 27, 2020, by Petri Suokas’s family business. The building sits close to another sports venue, Karhupallo Areena.
