Ilie Oana Stadium

The old Stadionul Petrolul stood on this ground from 1937, and when it came down the new arena kept the name that mattered locally, not the club's, but a man's: Ilie Oană. The ground has carried his name and Petrolul's fortunes ever since.

It is a compact, single-purpose bowl on Strada Stadionului — 15,073 seats, no running track, no second tenant to share the calendar with. The pitch and drainage date to the original 2011 build and have not been touched since; a resurfacing is pencilled in for 2025 ahead of the European Under-19 Championship, alongside work the club has already done piecemeal — new LED floodlights fitted in 2022 to replace the old system, seats replaced on the O and I stands, and smaller jobs before that, changing rooms retiled, the substitutes' bench repaired seat by seat rather than in one sweep.

The ground has also hosted the national team. Romania played the Faroe Islands here in March 2015, a European qualifier that drew 13,898 through the turnstiles, close to a full house and a reminder that Ploiești can pull a crowd when the fixture warrants it. Petrolul supporters still call it Stadionul Petrolul among themselves, an old habit that outlasted the official renaming.
