Jeju World Cup Stadium

Three weeks in June 2002 gave this ground on the southern edge of Jeju island its whole reputation. Brazil beat China 4–0 here on 8 June in front of 36,750; four days later Paraguay played Slovenia; on 15 June Germany edged Paraguay 1–0 with 25,176 in. Before any of that, South Korea drew 1–1 with England on 21 May in a friendly that filled the same bowl.

Almost everything after has been a story of subtraction. Ilkun Architects, with Hwang Il-in leading the design, drew a ground of roughly 42,000 seats, built by Poonglim Industrial for 112.5 billion won. Once the World Cup had gone, the temporary seating in the East Stand came out. A further renovation in 2013 took the count down again. What remains is a stadium built for a month it will not see twice, hosting Jeju United FC for a K League season at a time.

The pitch was lifted and relaid entirely in 2019, a job that took six months. And the crowd figures tell their own story: the highest official attendance on record is 18,912, set on 7 December 2025, when the home side met Suwon Samsung Bluewings in a relegation play-off.

It has carried the same name since it opened, with no sponsor's name attached at any point. Seogwipo City Hall runs it, ticketing included. Bayern Munich are due here in 2026 for the Audi Football Summit.
