Jernvallen
When Hungary played Wales here on 8 June 1958 in front of 20,000, Jernvallen became, and remains, the northernmost ground ever to host a finals match.
The stadium predates that tournament by two decades. Built between 1937 and 1940 and opened in 1938, it was reckoned at the time the most modern sports complex in Europe.
The biggest crowd Jernvallen has held came on 22 September 1957, when 20,288 watched Sandvikens IF draw 2-2 with IFK Norrköping, still the attendance record. The club's best run in the Swedish Cup went the other way: a 0-2 defeat to Åtvidabergs FF in the 1969/70 final.
In 1993 the club laid a new pitch alongside the old one. Nya Jernvallen took over as the football ground, heated artificial turf underfoot, while Gamla Jernvallen passed to Sandvikens AIK's bandy side, a few metres away and a different game entirely. The stadium has never had a website of its own; fixtures and tickets run through the club's site, sandvikensif.se.
