JMA Wireless Dome
Syracuse, United States
Formerly: Carrier Dome
The JMA Wireless Dome is the largest domed stadium on any campus in the United States. The old air-supported roof was an idea that did not last; it was replaced by a fixed steel structure in 2020, a change that cost tens of millions of dollars and left the stadium looking different from the inside as well as the outside. The artificial surface, laid down in 2005 and refreshed in 2015, is a constant under the stands.
It was not always a place for college athletics. The venue hosted the NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four seven times, including the 1999 championship where the home team defeated Duke. The capacity has been trimmed back over the years to suit the sport. Metallica played here in 2025, drawing a crowd that broke the all-time record for the venue, a number that surpassed what had been set by The Who in 1982. The Syracuse Crunch played an exhibition game in 2014, setting an indoor professional hockey record in the process. The stadium replaced the Archbold Stadium.
