Kaftanzoglio Stadium
The money that built this ground came from a bequest. Lysimachos Kaftanzoglou left it to a foundation, the foundation paid for the work, and the name has stayed on the building ever since.
The terraces went in 2000, replaced by seats, and the figure fell to roughly 28,000.
That rebuild ran from August 2002 to early 2004 and cost around €47 million. It gave the west stand a four-storey metal block for press and hospitality, put a training building behind the east stand, added a second pitch with a track, and slotted in a sports museum. The ground reopened on 27 April 2004 with a friendly against Germany, then hosted Olympic football through to a semi-final and the bronze medal match.
Before any of that, on 16 May 1973, it staged the European Cup Winners' Cup final: AC Milan 1–0 Leeds United in front of 40,154.
Since March 2026 PAOK Thessaloniki have shared it as an interim home while their own ground is built.
