Lidwala Consulting Engineers ran the project, which brought capacity up to 15,000, added floodlights rated to at least 500 lux, and fitted the facilities a World Cup training camp requires: FIFA offices, doping control, referees' rooms, a media centre and a security centre. The grass pitch was upgraded to match the standard of Mbombela Stadium nearby.
Kruger United FC, playing in the National First Division, calls it home; Mbombela United FC used the venue before them.
