The ground began life as an athletics venue in Nagai Park. That changed in 2010, when the track was pulled out, turning it into a football-specific ground.

The second rebuild, finished in 2021, cost 6.6 billion yen and went mainly into one structure: a new two-tiered West Stand with a roof over it. The brief was sightlines and acoustics. Capacity settled at 24,481 afterwards.

Cerezo Osaka play their J1 League football here. The ground is not theirs alone: the rugby union side NTT DoCoMo Red Hurricanes Osaka moved in during 2022, and FC Osaka used it until 2018. Japan have played Colombia here twice in recent years, the men in 2023 and the women in 2025.

The name has changed again since the Kincho years — Yodoko Sakura Stadium, then Yanmar Hanasaka Stadium — while the address in Higashisumiyoshi-ku has not moved.
