King Fahd International Stadium
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Formerly: King Fahd International Stadium
The King Fahd Sports City Stadium does not look like any other ground in Riyadh. The structure sits on Prince Bandar Bin Abdulaziz Road, and though it is now officially renamed, it remains a landmark defined by its tent-like canopy.
The renovation is underway: the pitch is being lowered by approximately 10 meters to bring the crowd closer to the action, and the roof surface is being reduced. Only the upper tier of the eastern stand will be retained from the original build. The capacity is being expanded to 70,200 seats for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.
The stadium is currently the only major venue in the capital that is not exclusively owned by one club. They moved to their own stadiums between 2020 and 2023, leaving this place to host the national team and international finals. It held the 2014 AFC Champions League final, where the crowd reached 63,763. The scale of those occasions is still visible in the vastness of the stands, even if the tenants have changed.
