King Zwelithini Stadium
Umlazi has no shortage of open ground. King Zwelithini Stadium sits at the meeting of Griffiths Mxenge Highway and Ephraim Mdala Maphumulo Street, in Sector D, opposite the KwaMnyandu Mall.
The change came with the World Cup. Ahead of the 2010 tournament, families living in the Zamani transit camp were relocated to clear ground for the stadium and for parking tied to the mall, and an 84-million-rand upgrade doubled capacity from 5,000 to 10,000 seats. It kept the expanded footprint afterwards.
Since then it has settled into a rhythm familiar to township stadiums across KwaZulu-Natal. The recorded attendance mark, 10,000, was set on 20 August 2019 when AmaZulu drew 0-0 with Orlando Pirates.
Football aside, the stadium has doubled as civic ground.
