Lambert Park

Lambert Park has belonged to one club since the ground first opened: APIA Leichhardt built it, and Tigers colours are the only ones that have ever mattered here. The pitch sits on a corner block on Foster Street, in the inner-western suburb that gave the club its second name, and for most of its history it was the sort of tight, parochial ground where a visiting NSL side knew exactly what kind of afternoon it was in for.

The record crowd dates back to 11 May 1987, when 7,250 people packed in for a Leichhardt derby-flavoured NSL fixture against Sydney Olympic — a figure the ground has not come close to matching since, and one that says something about how the old National Soccer League filled suburban grounds that today's competitions rarely do.

What changed the place was the rebuild finished in March 2014: a synthetic surface replaced the old turf, floodlights went in, and a new northern stand added 1,200 covered seats, work that ran past AUD 3.5 million and left a ground built for club football able to host far more of it, week in, week out, without the pitch giving out. Sydney FC used it as a base for their W-League side the following season, and the Tigers themselves produced one of the ground's better modern nights in August 2018, beating reigning A-League champions Melbourne Victory 2-1 in the round of 32 of the FFA Cup. More recently, in December 2024, a Greek legends side featuring members of the 2004 European Championship-winning squad played a charity match here — a reminder that a ground this size can still draw names well beyond its usual Saturday fixtures.
