Langsford Park

The ground carries the name of the man who bought the land. Herbert Thomas Langsford, president of Tavistock AFC, purchased the site in 1947 and handed it to the club under trust two years later; a carved commemorative stone marks him on the ground. No other club has been based here since.

What sits on that land has been altered in stages. New LED floodlights went in during 2017. After Tavistock went up to the Southern League Division One, a £24,000 project replaced the earth bank supporters had walked over with turnstiles, added undercover standing, boundary fencing, new pitch panels and signage. The result is a patchwork: one small terraced stand, two metal pre-fabricated stands, and open terracing round the rest, with only about 200 of the places seated.

The pitch itself has drawn more notice than the structures. Langsford Park took the Jewson South Western League Ground of the Year award in 1996–97, then the South West Peninsula League equivalent in 2009–10, 2014–15 and 2015–16.

Its bigger days have come through the cups. Tavistock reached the Third Qualifying Round of the FA Cup in 1954–55 and again in 2019–20. Hungerford Town came in the FA Trophy Second Round in 2022–23. In August 2023 Barnstaple Town were the visitors — the fifth FA Cup meeting between the two, the first dating to the late 1940s — and Tavistock were carved open late, beaten 5-3 after leading.
