There is no fixed capacity here in the usual sense: the main stand is dug into the side of a hill, and when the grass bank above it fills up, the ground can absorb up to 20,000 people spilling down the slope.

The ground opened as the Town Sports Ground once land set aside in 1961 was finally cleared, and construction wrapped up in early 1964.

The biggest crowd on record arrived in September 2012, when 22,000 people packed the slopes for a World Cup qualifier against Tahiti. The same year, the stadium staged the final of the OFC Nations Cup, where Tahiti's single goal against New Caledonia made the difference and sent them through to the Confederations Cup.

Ownership has not always sat easily with use: Honiara City Council, which holds the land, tore up a thirty-year lease with the Solomon Islands Football Federation in 2020 over disputes about ticket income.
