The turf underfoot at Linköping Arena has not always been turf. The ground that opened in May 2013 on Kallerstads Allé, designed by White arkitekter, started out with natural grass. Older references still list it under an earlier name, Bilbörsen Arena. The grass lasted only until the end of a championship season in 2014, when the club switched to an artificial surface fitted with underground heating, a change that kept the pitch playable through the Swedish winter for several different tenants sharing the same ground.

Those tenants set the venue apart from most Swedish football grounds of similar size. Linköpings FC, the city's women's side, has called it home since the opening, sharing the pitch with the men of FC Linköping City and with Hemgårdarnas BK and BK Derby, both of which use the changing rooms here and play their home fixtures on the same surface.

Locals know to keep it separate from Saab Arena, formerly the Cloetta Center, on the other side of town — that ground belongs to Linköpings HC and ice hockey, not football. Linköping Arena, at Kallerstads Allé 1, is the football address instead, with room for 7,400 at its own fixtures.
