Lotto Arena
Antwerp, Belgium
The Lotto Arena is located in the Merksem district of Antwerp. It opened in March 2007 after nine months of work by MBG with Van Wellen. The building stands apart from the older Bosuilstadion, which hosts Royal Antwerp FC.
What makes the place different is its purpose. The floor is a hard court laid for basketball and tennis rather than grass for a football match. The Antwerp Giants play their home games here, and for eight years the arena hosted the ATP Tour 250 European Open tennis tournament before the event moved elsewhere. The European Open tennis tournament ran annually from 2016 to 2024. It also served as a venue for the 2019 Men's European Volleyball Championship.
The capacity sits at 5,218 for matches, with the room stretching to 8,050 when the floor is cleared for concerts. The design came from abv+ architecten, with J. Seliarts and F. Liguori at the helm, and the project cost reached €13 million, half of it covered by public funding.
There is no separate attendance record to point to, only the limits set by the seating plan. The name Lotto Arena has stayed the same since day one. The venue sits at Schijnpoortweg 119, 2170 Merksem.
