Maidan
The pitch that carries the name Mohun Bagan sits inside the Maidan, Kolkata's great open ground rather than any enclosed stadium precinct, and that setting is the first thing to understand about it.
The site began under a different name, Calcutta FC Ground, before Mohun Bagan's tenancy gave it the identity it holds now. For a century and a half the surface was grass. That changed in 2022, when RPSG Group's rebrand of the club's football operation brought a switch to artificial turf, aligning the ground with Indian Super League requirements. The first match played on the new surface was a friendly against Chennaiyin FC that August, a quiet marker of how far the old ground had moved from its nineteenth-century start.
It holds 22,000 now, and it remains Mohun Bagan Super Giant's home. What sets it apart is not capacity but continuity, carrying its history in the change of surface rather than in any change of place.
